Artwork selected for this loan program will be hung in the Sawyer Yards Creative Office at A100, Winter Street Studios. The office hosts meetings with the building owners, event organizers, designers, curators, etc. Artists who lend artwork can list their pricing and contact info, essentially selling the work through our office. Sawyer Yards does not handle any sales or monetary transactions but will connect interested buyers with the artist or direct them to contact the artist directly. Artists keep 100% of their sales. 

Artwork must be ready to hang on the walls and outfitted with either hanging wire, D-rings, or a cleat. Artist information and artwork details will be displayed with each artwork. Artwork will be rotated every three months. However, if the artist needs to retrieve their artwork before the end of the period for an exhibition or because the work has sold, that is of course permitted. 

Disclaimer: Sawyer Yards is not able to insure your artwork, artists are responsible for securing their own artwork insurance if they wish to, but it is not required. Our office is locked and secured when nobody is there.

Theme:   For this exhibition, we're highlighting your individual version of beauty.  Please submit two pieces that for you epitomizes beauty.   Be prepared, in 50 words or less, to explain where you find beauty... 

Details:   This exhibition is open to all Silos tenants. Works will be on view in the corridors of all bays. Submission Guidelines:   

ARTWORK SUBMISSION CAPS: 

1. For each studio, two pieces per lease holding tenant  

2. For galleries no more than 6 pieces total  

DIMENSION CAPS: 

1. For two submissions, no more than 48” wide each  

2. For one submission, no more than 60” wide.

ARTWORK PLACEMENT: 

One piece guaranteed to be outside studio or as close as possible on a first come first serve basis.   The 2nd piece will go where it best supports both the exhibition as a whole as well as guest flow throughout the building.

Exhibition Guidelines: 

• WORKS MUST BE WIRED CORRECTLY FOR HANGING OR THEY WILL NOT BE INCLUDED (wire MUST be firmly attached to the back of the piece)
• No Anchor Bolts
• All paintings must be dry (NO wet submissions in any media)
• Painting stretchers must lay flat against the wall
• Large or unframed paper works will be considered at the discretion of the exhibition committee, the artist must be available to install
• Artist must be available to hang their own heavy works (over 30 lbs) or provide special installation instructions and hardware. Most walls are drywall only.
• Works on canvas must be framed or have finished edges appropriate to the image or process
• Frames must be in good condition (no scratches or loose corners)
• Artworks must be clean and free of smudges and smears that are not in keeping with the stylistic intent of the artwork
• Please specify if an electrical outlet is needed before installation
• Headphones or a timer must be installed with all sound works
• Sold works may be removed from the exhibition ONLY if replaced within 48 hours with an artwork similar in scale and no holes are added to the walls.   Email the exhibitions coordinator with an image of the new work and tag information : Rob Gladstone, rob@rob-gladstone-digital.com.

AN INVITATION ONLY, SILOS EVENT

Date: September 26 from 6 - 8pm

This first annual, Silos event is an opportunity to throw a party for our collectors.  As an invitation only event, it does not require outside marketing.  We will market to our collectors, individually from our own accumulated lists.  Marketing graphics and an RSVP app will be supplied to you for your outreach efforts.  

The associated costs for us comes from the party we throw.  Initially, we are asking for a soft count of expected guests on this submittable form.  However, in order to draft a budget and raise the necessary funds from each artist, we will use an RSVP app, like Eventbrite, to get a hard count of expected guests.

This is intended to be a special night of appreciation.  A chance for both our guests to mingle, eat, drink, be entertained and appreciated.  But, of course, we will have our doors open as well for those who would like to participate.

On View: One Month Exhibitions in Gallery 300

The Silos Exhibition Opportunity:   We now have a new exhibition space in The Silos open exclusively to Silos Artists.  Gallery 300 is located between the restroom area and 300 artist hallway.  This can be either a single artist or team of artists.  Just present your Theme Title, Proposal and up to 8 images.  Each exhibition will show for one month to give as many artists as possbile an opportunity to display their work in this format.

Submission Guidelines: 

 
This exhibition area is for Silos lease holders only.  Fill out Submittable form in its entirety.  ALL FINAL IMAGES must be submitted no later than one month before exhibition goes up on the walls.

SPACE REQUIREMENTS:
This space, generally, should be able to accommodate up to eight large pieces.  However, we will be flexible in our final determination on size and number according to the needs of each showing.

Our exhibitions aim to showcase the work of our occupants along with local, regional, and national artists, organizations, and institutions. We welcome visual art in all media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, fibers, photography, sculpture, installation, performance, video, and new media.

Sawyer Yards has 7 dedicated gallery spaces across the campus, that are programmed out on a rotating basis. Each gallery hosts up to 7 exhibitions a year, each lasting between 6 and 8 weeks depending on the building schedule. 

Project Description:
 

• Sawyer Yards is accepting exhibition proposals on an ongoing basis. We invite artists and curators to propose exhibition ideas for our gallery spaces.
• The gallery spaces on average are approximately 2000 SQFT.
• Proposals are invited from individual artists, curators, teams, or groups. 
• The Sawyer Yards Exhibition Program's goal in selecting proposals includes presenting a cross-section of media, content, and diversity over the year while showcasing quality art. 
• Sawyer Yards Exhibitions reserve the right to refuse the exhibition of work that does not accurately reflect the original proposal. 
• Sawyer Yards is not responsible for damage or loss or artwork while on view. Artists are encouraged to insure their work while on view at Sawyer Yards.
• Publicity will be provided through the Sawyer Yards Exhibition Program and Marketing Director. 
• Open flames and animals are not allowed. Soundtracks and audio must have headphones or be able to be set on timers to be silenced during theater performances. 

 Evaluation Criteria:

• Artistic quality: Artists of the highest artistic caliber, as demonstrated by examples of past work.
• Responsiveness: Letter of intent, proposal images, and final work successfully portray the overall goals of the project, while also engaging and inspiring the community.
• Project management ability: Applicant(s) demonstrate that the Artist has the necessary capability to accomplish the project, and to create and deliver the work on schedule

 Application Requirements:

1. Resume/CV, no more than three pages.
2. Letter of Intent, to include contact information, and a description of how the Artist intends to meet the criteria listed above (1,500 words maximum). This statement should describe the work the artist plans to show and provide some context for it. 
3. Work Examples: Up to ten (10) samples of previous work or new works intended for the exhibition. Only JPEGs up to 5 MB in size will be accepted. For proposed site-specific works or installations, schematic drawings may be submitted. 
4. Image List for all Work Example: to include Artist name(s), title, date completed (as applicable), dimensions, and material/medium.

Timeline:

Once your proposal has been reviewed you will receive notification from Sawyer Yards. Upon selection, the gallery and timeline will be determined for the upcoming year. Applicants whose work does not fit the criteria will be notified in a timely manner.

What is a Ward?  What defines a Ward, or in a more modern sense of the word, a neighborhood? Sabine Street Studios is located in what is the First Ward, meaning the first developed in Houston. As artists and creatives we all come from different backgrounds and heritages, as does our practice. But this practice has a shared sense of personal belonging, of representing us and ourselves. Can a neighborhood have an identity when it is made up of diverse peoples and backgrounds? Or is just a geographic definition, bordered by streets and bayous? 

How does your Ward fit within your studio practice? Is the idea of "home" something which inspires you creatively, or a place of rest and comfort? 

These are some of the questions to be considered when entering and producing works for the upcoming exhibition at Sabine.
 

Fee:  $20.
    Entry fees are collected to pay for a reception and marketing. Any overage funds are earmarked for future building exhibition needs.

NOTE: This is not a curated exhibit; all works will be accepted, pending space and theme. Works will hang in the South Gallery and throughout the corridors. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Work that has been previously exhibited in the Sabine Street Tenant Exhibitions will NOT be permitted.  Let's try to keep things fresh.

Artwork Drop Off:  April 30 - May 2, 2024
    All artwork should be dropped off in the South Gallery during these dates.

All artwork must include appropriate hanging hardware for your piece(s) and have an identification label secured to the back of each piece.  Artwork labels should include artists name, contact information, and piece title. If artwork is not dropped off by the deadline it will not be included in the exhibit. Please refer to hanging specifications for proper hardware and finishing of submitted artwork.

    The artwork will be placed by Exhibitions Coordinator Justin Grant on May 2nd, 2024
