Our Walls Stay Fresh.

With gallery lighting and pristine walls, each building in the Sawyer Yards complex hosts on average 6 exhibitions a year. Our exhibitions aim to showcase the work of our occupants along with local, regional, and national organizations and institutions. We welcome visual art in all media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, performance, participatory, video and new media.

Artwork selected for this loan program will be hung in the Sawyer Yards Creative Office at A100, Winter Street Studios. The office hosts meetings with the building owners, event organizers, designers, curators, etc. Artists who lend artwork can list their pricing and contact info, essentially selling the work through our office. Sawyer Yards does not handle any sales or monetary transactions but will connect interested buyers with the artist or direct them to contact the artist directly. Artists keep 100% of their sales.

Artwork must be ready to hang on the walls and outfitted with either hanging wire, D-rings, or a cleat. Artist information and artwork details will be displayed with each artwork. Artwork will be rotated every three months. However, if the artist needs to retrieve their artwork before the end of the period for an exhibition or because the work has sold, that is of course permitted.

Disclaimer: Sawyer Yards is not able to insure your artwork, artists are responsible for securing their own artwork insurance if they wish to, but it is not required. Our office is locked and secured when nobody is there.

The Friends of El Salvador presents Colors of El Salvador Paint Workshop.

THURSDAY, May 8th, 6:30pm-9:30pm.

The event is free and open to the public to attend.

Description of Workshop:

Participants will work on a painting of the Torogoz, the national bird of El Salvador. While they are working on the painting, there will be a slideshow of Salvadorean artist quotes displaying from a projector for people to incorporate the quotes into the artwork. We will briefly discuss the history of the Torogoz, what it represents, and encourage participants to use paint that is symbolic to how they are feeling in the moment to fill in the canvas.

The workshop will be hosted by Sabine Street artist Carrie Swim and Salvi artist Susana Lewandowski.

The fee to participate in the guided workshop is a donation of $40, and includes all the materials and a drink ticket.

All donations from this event help Friends of El Salvador establish formal art programs in a school they established for young children of the country. This is the first time they are getting access to formal art training... Thanks to you and our Houston community! Art classes can help these children, discover themselves more deeply, dream bigger, and create a more beautiful future.

There will be drinks and light bites inspired by El Salvadorean food for purchase.

What we are asking from Sabine Street Artists is:

1) Keep their doors open - treating it like a second Saturday for the public to view and buy their work.

2)  Ask artists to contribute a portion of their sales from the evening to the friends of El Salvador. This percentage is decided by the artists, and will be handled by the artist. For example, if a painting is sold, the artist receives all the funds, then in turn will make the allotted donation to Friends of El Salvador either in their name or the name of the buyer. Unless the buyer has their own method of donation.

3) We are also looking for volunteers to help assist with workshop as needed, such as set up, break down, or help participants with their painting.

The Friends of El Salvador media team will be going around to interview artists to increase their the exposure of the Sabine Street artists to the vast global community that supports friends of El Salvador and to inspire young aspiring artists in El Salvador.
